Randi Rhodes of Air America is calling for everyone to send emails, or preferably nice yellow telegrams, to all the Democratic Senators. Her thought is that we tell them they should stand together and contest the electors. This way, no one Senator has to shoulder the burden alone. They should then come out and talk to the press while holding, or carting, many huge stacks of emails and telegrams (preferred since the yellow will show up and people know there was a cost involved with sending it). The news has to cover the election being contested. It's our chance to get some air time and get this issue into the political consciousness. Isn't it sad we have to do that to get coverage in the media?
Admittedly, it will not change the outcome. The House will still appoint Bush. What it will do, though, is get rid of the mandate and political capital nonsense Bush has been spouting. Suddenly, it becomes apparent, or at least a major talking point, that Bush has never been able to get into the White House by the will of the people. The only way he gets there is to be appointed by a government entity.
I think it's a good plan. At least it is something we can do to be proactive. Does anyone have a cut and paste list of the email addresses of only the Democratic Senators?
Update:
Later in the program, Bob Fitrakes, one of the attorneys in the Ohio suits, called into the program. He believes there will be a challenge. He said Senators, "like Barbara Boxer are waiting to hear from your listeners." Sounds promising.
Fitrakes then handed the phone to Jesse Jackson who said there is a 10 a.m. rally being held tomorrow in D.C. at Lafayette Park.
Randi even gave the Senators a nice soundbite to use - "We can't certify what we can't verify." It kind of has that nice, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit" feel to it.
