I am totally disgusted with the Democratic Party's continuing disintegration. There is only one way for Democrats to slavage the party and that is to behave like liberals and progressives. We don't need "Republican-Lite". Following are three letters I sent to three Senators.
To: Sen. Dayton (D-MN)
Dear Sen. Dayton,
You'll have to pardon me for this sir, but Damn you sir. Your criticisms of Sen. Boxer for facilitating the protest against the vote certification is exactly the type of act that has doomed the Democratic Party, of which I am no longer a member. The very notion that a Democratic Senator would toady himself by standing up and complaining that a protest against this election might undermine the country's confidence in it's democracy is ludicrous in the extreme. Thousands of voters, many of them minorities, had their voting rights abrogated by the Republican Party...AGAIN. What voter suppression and intimidation didn't accomplish, vote fraud and the infamous electronic voting machines did. To deny this evidence is to deny reality, something with which your wing of the party is becoming increasingly familiar. Among millions of American's, the idea that we are a Democracy has already been completely undermined.
I am not a constituent of yours, and I have no illusions that you will actually read this email. I can only hope that the staffer who glances at it will reconsider her commitment to a Democratic Senator who displays such cowardice. Senator, I have to ask, can the "President" count on your vote to privatize social security? I'm sure he can. How about authoring some legislation to legitimize this unseemly vote fraud and suppression? Maybe something like making minority and other potentially Democratic voters count for less than a full vote each--say, three-fifths of a vote. Senator, with all due respect, why don't you just make your allegiance plan. From your own bio. on your web page I see that you were a member of the same fraternity as George W. Bush at Yale, Delta Kappa Epsilon. Why you don't you just join the Republican Party so your constituents in Minnesota know where they stand.
Sincerely,
Sean P. Keenan

Subject: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
Dear Sen. Boxer
And Thank You again. Thanks for trying. Of course this is in regards to the protest you joined against the certification of that fraudulent election. Once again I am put in the position of praising your stance and courage in voting your conscience. Unfortunately I am also filled with disgust because in our foundering party, you are the ONLY Senator to vote her conscience--just as you were the only Senator to vote against authorizing the use of force in Iraq. Nevertheless, I am proud you are my Senator.
Thanks Again,
Sean P. Keenan

To: Sen. Feinstein
Dear Sen. Feinstein,
Where were you yesterday? What could possibly have been so important that you were unable to vote on the protest, joined by your fellow Californian, Senator Boxer, against the certification of our latest fraudulent election. Not being aware of your motives, I cannot cast aspersions. I can only hope that you don't share the same position as your colleague. Senator Dayton or Minnesota. As I'm sure you're aware, your vote is the only concrete indication of your position on any given issue, and it is the only way your constituents have to follow the quality of your representation.
I hope your decision to avoid voting was not based on a political calculation to minimize your exposure in the upcoming 2006 election. It is exactly this strategy that has all but scuttled the Democratic Party. As I see it, the ONLY way for the Democratic Party to come out of the this nosedive is to provide a distinct, well articulated, passionate opposite to the Republicans. This shouldn't be too hard considering the Republican's stance is against everything progressives, liberals and therefore democrats stand for. This is exactly how Howard Dean was able to ignite the base of our party and make it possible to even conceive the idea of beating George W. Bush in the last election. It is also the primary reason John Kerry was unable to win, along with the vast voter suppression and high-tech fraud you chose not to vote on yesterday. I must tell you, I have very little faith in our party upon seeing it run two such atrocious elections. It appeared to me that the hierarchy of the Democratic Party chose to soften the edge of extremely justifiable anger and passion when they chose to sabotage Dean and support Kerry. I'm no soothsayer, but if past behavior is any indicator of future outcomes, I can almost guarantee the Democratic Party will lose enough Senate seats to neutralize the filibuster in 2006. There is no room for "Republican-Lite" in the Democratic Party. It's as simple as this, either behave like Democrats, liberals, progressives or risk the further weakening of the party. Join the Republicans if you fell otherwise.
I know you have plenty of advisors, but on a strictly political level, it is unlikely the Republicans will target your seat. They might try to put up a fight, but your particular brand of "below-the-radar" campaigning should make it exceedingly difficult to defeat an incumbent, especially in California. Of course, they don't, and won't be able to have any of their nifty little paperless voting machines in California either. A fact that helps a lot. They might try using Schwarzenegger, but it's unlikely that alone will work. You're safe, so stand up and vote your conscience. If you do agree with your colleague Sen. Dayton of Minnesota, I'm going to include the letter I wrote to him.
Sincerely,
Sean P. Keenan
