Someone who knows better than I can answer this. Is there a way to project images onto solar panels, and could those images be varied in terms of shading? Basically, can we put the image of the American flag on a solar panel? Even better would be if we could somehow, efficiently, make the solar panel's reflective brilliance tied to the amount of energy this patriot was saving his country.
The marketing is what would really sell it. If you tell people that they are a helping the common good and making America stronger because every bit of energy they save is keeping the money out of the hands of X foreign government....guess what...you just went over the heads of most Americans. Or maybe that is being unfair.....its not that they don't get it, but that that benefit isn't perceived as salient enough to modify behavior.
But if you can visually translate energy savings into a big red white and blue flag, then more people will viscerally get it.
You can also introduce straw man dogs to market it. You can say, "we can still sell you grey ones if you hate the American flag". Then, because of course they don't hate America...."
Also you can use a false dichotomy. "Do you oppose the plan because you don't want to leave America beautiful for our future, or do you just hate the flag?"
Let's not be above using damn effective Republican style rhetoric to promote a damn good idea
