I don't know how many of you remember the 1980s, but toward the end of his presidency, Ronald Reagan was obviously losing it. My roommates and I used to watch his press conferences and roll around with laughter as reporters would ask Reagan a question, he would begin with "Well.." and then an aide would literally pull him from behind the podium and answer for him.
Of course, we did not know at the time that he was showing the beginning of Alzheimers disease; if we had known, we would not have insensitively laughed at him. But we still would have been horrified that the most powerful man in the world was not functioning with all of his capacities. Didn't the media, who had to know something was wrong, have an obligation to inform the citizenry of the United States that their president was suffereing from a disease that could affect his ability to process information and make decisions?? Is that one of the most important functions the media has: to keep tabs on leaders to be sure they are competent?
Are they hiding Bush's drinking from us? I think we need to start asking them.
More below::
We have heard from the National Enquirer that Bush is drinking again:

The Enquirer reporter said that he stands by his story completely, even to the point of a libel suit. The only media I saw follow this was the Weekly Globe, which is even more ludicrous than the Enquirer. It would definitely detract from the veracity of the story, which may have been its purpose.
How to get the media to tell the truth?? I vow, today, to write to 3 media outlets and demand the truth about Bush's drinking: Hardball, Countdown with Keith (who might actually do something with the story) and the NY Times.
Won't you join me in demanding that our media do their job? I mean, what is the worst that would happen if Bush was drinking again? He would just have the Reverend Billy Graham talk to him again, to get him to stop drinking, and try to function for the next 3 years. For the good of our nation, we cannot have this mess of a human being running the show. (or pretending to, at least.)
What do you think???
