As has been discussed, republicans and other "conservatives" have been bickering among themselves about whether to support Bush's selection of Harriet Miers.
An article today in American Spectator attempts to smooth over these disputes, by encouraging all the gang to get back in line & support the president.
The article is here.
See below for some quotes.
In the article, the author (Jay Homnick) comes close to conceding that Harriet is not the strongest candidate. But does it bother him that she's unqualified & a crony? Not at all! As he explains, this is perfect, because she's a sure thing vote for the prez.
This is the best part:
Fate has dealt the cards in reverse order. We are not replacing one of the four Gore votes in Bush vs. Gore. Both Rehnquist and O'Connor were/are more or less on our side. The time to test the muscle of the conservative element in our populace is not now. Now our job is to slip in our pals. Not the boisterous ones, the reliable but quiet ones.
I know that this shouldn't surprise me, that it's just how politics is, but seriously. What an irredeemable bunch of losers. They really do not care one bit about the fate of the country, or the dignity of the Supreme Court, or the long-term effects of propping up cronies. All they want is someone who will reliably follow the party line, someone they can trust not to ever think for herself.
Just wanted to share.
