Our Phoenix
Air America affiliate,
1010KXXT, was
sold last Wednesday to a Christian broadcasting group. It is still up in the air whether they will keep programming as it is, but I have a bad feeling about this.
Does this mean the end of liberal talk radio in Arizona?
Someone who does not wish to be named, but who has good contacts at KXXT, responded to this question as follows:
My sources at KXXT tell me that any format changes won't occur, if they occur at all, until next January, when the sale is finalized. Also, I am informed that although the new owners are with a Christian broadcast outfit, they may have purchased KXXT because it is making money in a tight market where available, in-the-black radio stations are a rare commodity. Therefore, it is conceivable that KXXT's format may not change, even with Christian ownership. There is also the possibility that the Air America format may simply look for another location on the local AM dial and take its popular, advertising-attractive show with it. Right now, however, there is just a lot of buzz and speculation.
I do hope he's correct about this. Many of us will really miss having a liberal talk radio station in Phoenix.
