Recently, a 'lawyer', by the name of
Jack Thompson of
Howard Stern fining and 2 Live Crew suit fame, has set his sight on the gaming community.
This 'attorney'
offered $10,000 to a charity of choice of anyone who could create a computer game based on his insane revenge fantasy based on a grieving father killing employees of the gaming industry.
As is to be expected with the 'million monkeys on keyboards' nature of the Internet, his challenge was quickly completed.
Thompson, of course, refused to honor his challenge when it was met, and offered that modders were not part of the game industry that he was challenging.
This is a questionable tactic, however, in light of the fact that he only refused to honor his promise because the people who made his game were game modders.
It should be noted, that the most popular online game of all time, Counterstrike, was created by similar modders.
Thompson, however, did not expect the influence of Penny Arcade. Penny Arcade is a primer website in the gamer community.
Through its "Child's Play" charity Penny Arcade has provided millions of dollars to give toys to hospital bound children every Christmas.
As a gamer supported organization, Penny-Arcade could not sit back and allow Thompson to slander their fans.
Penny-Arcade.com made the promised donation to charity Thompson refused, in his name.
In response, Jack Thompson has called on the Seattle Police to investigate Penny-Arcade.com for extortion.
"Sir, what did they do to you?"
"They donated money to charity!"
I strongly urge you to make a donation to Child's Play, to brighten up some kids Christmas.
And, I know the Lieberman and Hillary game-hating people are out there....guess what.
Thompson doesn't like you, he hates liberals.
"I certainly did, however, lose respect for Senator Clinton when she decided, after that, to attend a fundraiser thrown for her by the video game industry and by ESA's Doug Lowenstein. To me, that was a sell-out for campaign cash."
That goes for you too Lieberman.
Trust me Democrats, there is not one new voter in this country who has not played video games (and, bonus, has not turned out to be a murderer)
Stop sucking the religious right tit by harrasing us.
I would vote for Hillary if she had not jumped on Thompsons bandwagon.
