Sure, we don't know what Fitzgerald will come out with. Maybe nothing. Maybe he will indict only Democrats! Maybe this whole thing will amount to a whole hill of nothing. Maybe, instead of fireworks, we will just see tumbleweeds rolling past while the wind howls in the background.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Y'know what? That's all the more reason to celebrate now!
Why celebrate now? Because my hopes
can be dashed, as they have so often in the past decade. I
want to feel happy! I
want to feel like, just once, there is something right with the world for a change. I
want George to tell me about the rabbits, just one more time, before he shoots me!
Sure, I may be disappointed, really disappointed, when I look in my stocking on Fitzmas Day and find a lump of coal. But will I be more disappointed than when I woke up on the day after the election last November and found out that George W. Bush was still president! Hell no! I don't think I could ever be more disappointed than that, and guess what? I'm still here! I'm still alive! I survived the election of 2004, so I can survive anything!
And there is value in our celebrating: The MSM is not reporting much of this story. So we have to make the noise! If the other side sees us happy, maybe they'll get nervous. Maybe they will think that we know something they don't, and that there is something in the Kool Aid they are being given by Rush Crackhead and Faux News.
(In fact, a little while ago I heard Rush telling his dittoheads not to panic and to wait & see what Fitz will do. See? We are already having an effect!)
And if the MSM reports our celebration as the story, well then that's better than nothing. It tells the people out there that there is a story. I'm dancing 'cause I feel like dancing, and if it makes people ask, "why is he dancing?" or even want to join in themselves, well then I'm dancing all the merrier.
As far as I'm concerned, any publicity for this story is good. The Republican thugs do their work in the shadows. The more light we shine on the workings of this White House and on the Republican Party, the better. Next time they'll think twice about starting a war and lying about it.
And if we don't get what we want from Fitzy, well, at least the story will be reported. Rove and Scooter will be household names. Furthermore, their names will be associated with words like "investigation" and "special prosecutor" and "grand jury" and "indictments" - even if nothing happens next week! They will never get the stink of this investigation off themselves. They might win the legal battle, but they will be politically wounded in the process.
And meanwhile, we'll go on to the next fight. Remember, things are still going our way. Bush is still sinkingsinkingsinking in the polls. Harriet Miers is splintering the Republican coalition. And there's still "Blind Trust Bill" Frist on the horizon....
For those of you who don't like "gloating," or "We told you sos," or "Hooray, our idiot president is being exposed for the lying dipshit he really is," I say: Get over it! If you can't take the noise and the hoopla, go upstairs to bed and let the kids have their fun.
And for those of you who can't stand the thought of people being happy while our country goes downhill and wars are being waged and people are dying and the poor are hungry and little puppies are going unloved - won't somebody please think about the puppies? - please, go off to a monastery, put on a hair shirt, and spend the rest of your days in fasting and prayer, contemplating the world's sins.
As for me, today I'll dance! I'm having fun! For years I've been called an obstructionist and a dictator-coddler and a traitor and <gasp> a liberal! People acted as if I was the crazy one, when I though the war in Iraq was insane and the Republican tax & spending policies were nuts and Bush was a phony! I was one of those 10% or so who distrusted Bush even after 9/11. What was wrong with me?
Well I'm not the crazy one! I was right all along! Hahahahaha! The Republicans are crooks, and they are incompetent, and they are destroying this country. I'm not celebrating those facts (yes, facts!). I'm celebrating the fact that other people who didn't see it before are finally - finally! - starting to see it too. And I'm celebrating the fact that the MSM, which doesn't want to report this stuff, is finally being forced to. (It's amazing how a grand jury investigation will grab the attention.)
No, not everybody will see it the way I see it. And no, of course we Democrats & progressives can't just sit back and wait for the Congress and the presidency to fall into our laps. But the universe is righting itself, the laws of physics still apply (except in Kansas, where they are just a "theory"), and we can campaign on what we really believe, not on what we think other people believe. We don't have to kiss ugly babies anymore to win votes. We finally eak investigation, have a fair shot at restoring sanity to this country. Much of that is thanks to Fitzgerald, whatever he does on Fitzmas!
So, HAPPY FITZMAS, EVERYBODY!
