I've kept my ear close to the rumor mill here in D.C., and I think it's clear by now not only that the White House is planning for a post-Cheney White House, but that they are planning to take the unprecedented action of nominating Lee Harvey Oswald, the CIA, a bug eyed alien, the Freemasons, Fidel Castro, The Mafia, Area 51, Saddam Hussein's WMDs and the Cigarette Smoking Man to all serve as joint Vice-Presidents.
This plan also explains perfectly the nomination of Harriet Miers. Look at what
Dahlia Lithwick had to say in the New York Times:
[N]owhere is John Roberts more deferential as a judge than when it comes to the executive branch. In his rulings when he sat on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, he offered expansive readings of presidential authority. He ruled on that court that the Geneva Conventions do not confer on so-called enemy combatants any individual rights. And he was unwilling to answer at his hearings whether Congress has the power to end a war started by the president.
If you think of John Roberts as the justice who will urge a far more sweeping judicial deference - particularly to the executive branch - the subsequent Miers nomination makes sense. If Mr. Bush wants to refashion the courts into a weaker, passive entity that exists primarily to check its own institutional prerogatives, then a former White House counsel like Ms. Miers is the perfect choice.
You see it all makes perfect sense. The Constitution provides for the job of Vice-President to be held by a single person, and requires that person to be a born-citizen of the United States. Accordingly, if the Supreme Court were to act on Bush's appointment of Lee Harvey Oswald, the CIA, a bug eyed alien, the Freemasons, Fidel Castro, The Mafia, Area 51, Saddam Hussein's WMDs and the Cigarette Smoking Man, they would almost certainly declare it unconstitutional.
For starters, the appointment of Lee Harvey Oswald, the CIA, a bug eyed alien, the Freemasons, Fidel Castro, The Mafia, Area 51, Saddam Hussein's WMDs and the Cigarette Smoking Man to the Vice-Presidency would involve filling that job with more than one person, clearly not what the document intends. Moreover, many of co-VPs, such as Saddam's weapons or the alien, were not born or even naturalized citizens of the United States, so they should be constitutionally inevitable.
By selecting Miers--and Roberts before her--President Bush is hoping to stack the Court with Justices so deferential to the Executive that they will ignore the obvious unconstitutionality of the Lee Harvey Oswald/CIA/bug eyed alien/Freemasons/Fidel Castro/Mafia/Area 51/Saddam Hussein's WMDs/Cigarette Smoking Man appointment, and instead support a policy of "judicial restraint" that allows this appointment to go forward.
It's clear that the Senate must REJECT THE NOMINATION OF HARRIET MIERS to prevent this constitutional travesty from occuring. I urge everyone to CALL YOUR SENATOR and DEMAND that they vote NO on Harriet Miers. Otherwise the bug-eyed aliens win.
UPDATE:Irishwitch suggests in comments that Bush will also nominate the Illuminati. Irishwitch is wrong, however, because the Illuminati is already running the world, and has no interest in being demoted to Vice-President of the United States.
