So tomorrow may be Fitzmas and indictments will fall from the heavens and peace and justice will return to the world, right?
Don't count on it. The neo-cons are not cowed and they are not going gentle into that dark night. Don't believe me? Check out Macabee's diary about how Cheney specifically wants the explicit right to torture prisoners.
They have been driving this administration like a stolen SUV since they got their hands on it. And just like an episode of Cops now we're in full-on hot pursuit mode complete with lights and sirens.
More Cops after this!
At best the Fitzgerald indictments will be the spike strip that we've laid in their path, but they aren't stopping willingly for anything. They're going to just keep driving as fast as they can on the rims with sparks flying and chucks of disintegrating tires and pavement flying in all directions.
We're going to have to organize a rolling roadblock and finally ram them several times until the spin out of control into a ditch. Then comes the extended foot pursuit as they bail out of the smoking wreck of the SUV and scatter in all directions. After jumping a few dozen fences and hedges they'll hunted down and gang tackled. Cheney will be found trying to hide under an inverted plastic kiddie pool. After a brief struggle the cuffs will be finally be snapped to the sudden cries of, "Police brutality! Police brutality!"
This is America calling "Code 4".
Come to think of it... Cheney may be tempting fate as he tries to weaken protection for prisoners. But nobody tell him - the irony of that thought fills me with cozy, warm, happy feelings.
It ain't over, but for the first time in a long time I can how it could be... and for now that's enough.
