Little surveys of dKos user demographics pop up from time to time -- here's another one.
I've set up a "dailykos" group on the Frappr website. Frappr is a tool to map the locations of groups of people with a shared interest (like dKos users). This is just for fun.
Please participate. Go to this site:
and enter your dKos username and your zipcode. You'll also need to enter what they call a "shoutout." I put it in my hometown name -- it's up to you what you'd like to say, but you have to say something. You can also attach a photo if you like (I'd love to see some of you).
As users add their locations, the map will accumulate push-pins mapping out where we live. Click on a pushpin to see that user's name and "shout out" and photo, if he or she has attached one.
Again, just a cool toy to play with -- give it a try!
UPDATE: I've tried to fix issues as they come up in the thread below but I'm sure I've missed some. I can't edit your profiles but I can delete them so you can have a do-over. Email me (emptypockets04 at yahoo.com) if I can help.
Another thought: what would it be like to put the 2000 dead servicemen and women's pictures on a map like this (not necessarily using the Frappr software) with their hometowns, pictures and dates of birth and death? Anyone looking for a project?
Can you think of any other uses for this kind of tool?
Congressional candidate Chris Carney has picked up on this tool too and started his own Frappr group for his supporters, right here
Note: Added main page logo (without permission) to the Frappr site, and changed default view to Washington, D.C. at state-level resolution. Hopefully that speeds up loading somewhat & encourages people to scroll around at higher zoom, so more of the rural pushpins appear.
