The news today is all about how the radical right "won" on Miers. But remember, there was a group on the far right that supported Miers' appointment. After all she was an evangelical Christian and Dobson assured them that she would reverse Roe v. Wade. According to Dobson, Miers was good enough for them. I don't think the religious radical right (a larger group than the ideological radical right) really understood the idealogues' objection to miers (I am not sure I understood it, to tell you the truth.)
What does Dobson say now when he goes on the radio?
Does he talk about executive privilege? That's my best guess, because he is a republican operative.
He might cite the 1993 speech in which Miers' views on abortion are less clear. This is kind of more interesting, since it would mean some kind of statement that the inside information Dobson relied on (including Rove's assurances) was unreliable. Remember that Rove told Dobson all the better candidates had withdrawn. It will be interesting to see if one of them is named as a candidate.
He might just say that God got back in touch with him and told him He was wrong on Miers. Maybe G*d was misled by Rove and those judges from Texas too.
Anyway I am curious about Dobson's reaction. And I am wondering about the reaction of the evangelical christian flock, as well. I think most of them felt okay about Miers, that she was going to give them what they wanted on Roe and was a good christian. Some have been probably hearing pro-Miers talk in their churches. This decision could easily lead to some disillusionment or confusion among the flock.
The conventional wisdom all over the MSM -- that Bush has mended his rift with the right -- completely ignores this dynamic. Why isn't anyone talking to the fundies about this?
