On the flip, I've reposted this morning's calls to O'Falafel and Tony Snow. I was Rodger from Houston. Context: Cheney had called in earlier.
Hannity: Rodger in Houston... How are ya Rodger?
Me: Good...
For twenty-five years, since Ronald Reagan, Christians have turned out to vote for Republican leaders that have made promises about nominating and confirming unambiguous judges that would end legal abortion.
Reagan said the same things about O'Connor that Cheney said about Miers - and the first Bush said the same things about Souter...
I think that Republicans don't care about Christains - they only care about our votes... And maybe that's why the homosexual David Drier almost became House Majority Leader...
felt some apprehension re: the Drier comment. But decided not to let the bastards get away w/hypocrisy. Apologies to those offended. At any rate, the end, in italics, was censored by Hannity. He offered no response - simply went to next call. That should be all the proof anyone needs that the talk radio hacks are afraid of uncomfortable truths...
I called Tony Snow before O'Falafel... I'll blog that call at the end of this diary...
Unfortunately, the battery in the IPod ran dead - I was unable to record the O'Falafel call. If any of you get the show on delay and can record it, I'd love to get a mpg or other recording...
Rush Limbaugh's screener knows my voice or has my number blocked. Fucker. I get through, but he always says that "I'll ask Rush"... I got through Friday and asked if Rush thinks we need new Gitmo gear in commemoration of the West Point educated captain that has brought new abuse charges. Today I tried to replicate my O'Reilly call... anyway... I guess I've got to chill on Rush for now - I'll try again soon though...
Flip for today's calls:
O'Falafel:
Me: Hi Bill... I've got a theory. Like Edie, I think that abortion is the topic that comes to mind when most people think of the Supreme Court. And since at least 1980 when I started paying attention, Republicans have controlled who's been seated to the court - each was nominated by a Republican President or confirmed by a Republican Senate - or both...
I don't think republicans want to end abortion. Abortion is the goose that lays their golden eggs at every election. At least 20% of their electorate consists of hard right religious zealots that vote on the single issue of abortion. Without them, Republicans don't win elections. And if abortion was legal, they'd go back to handling snakes and not voting...
O'Falafel: Oh... I don't think that's true.
Me: Well look at who they've put on the court!
O'Falafel: long winded rant... cuts my mic... says he, personally, would not vote to overturn Roe if he were on the court... totally avoids my question/assertion...
Tony Snow:
Me: Hi Tony - I can tell you already how Miers will be attacked. I was listening to Deborah Orin - the reliably republican columnist from the NY Post - say that the knock against her will be that she's another Mike Brown - another example of cronyism... someone that has never been a judge and would never have made anyone else's short-list except George Bush's
Snow job: Oh come'on... George Bush does not appoint cronies to top positions... And she's made several people's short list... Just last week on this show, I talked about her...
these people will say anything, won't they?
