It was expected that the race for Mayor of Detroit between
Kwame Kipatrick and
Freeman Hendrix would get closer, but no one expected it would get
this close. According to Detroit station
WDIV.
The Detroit mayoral election is a little more than a week away and suddenly it's getting too close to call.
The latest exclusive Local 4-Survey USA poll found challenger Freman Hendrix leading incumbent Kwame Kilpatrick 49 to 46 percent.
With the survey's margin of error, it's a dead heat, according to Local 4.
Not too long ago, Hendrix enjoyed a 14-point lead over Kilpatrick, but that commanding lead has virtually vanished, Local 4 reported.
There is some speculation that
this ad is responsible for the tight numbers. It's a time-tested tactic in Detroit for the trailing candidate to play the race card.
In case you're wondering, the race is non-partisan with two declared Democrats running, though Kilpatrick has been less active in the party than other. Personally, I think this is temporary, and over the next nine days, the natural character of the race will re-assert itself with Hendrix on the way to victory.
