We'll be hearing
this one till the cows come home from the Wingnuts:
In 1990, President Bush's father, President George Bush, nominated [Samuel Alito, also known as "ScAlito"] for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and he confirmed unanimously [sic, I love doing that to the NYTimes] by what was then a Democrat-controlled Senate.
Yes, this is true. And in 1986, Antonin Scalia was confirmed unanimously. That was then. This is now. We don't get a do over with Scalia. Democrats did not know that Scalia would be the most extreme, radical right wing Justice since the Four Horseman of the Lochner Era. If they did, they would have voted unanimously against him. Do the Republicans want to allow a recall? I know Democrats would love one.
And Scalito was confirmed unanimously to the Third Circuit. And it turns out Scalito is, according to Jonathan Turley, to the RIGHT of Scalia and Thomas!! Talk about a scary costume for Halloween.
And this assessment is based on his 15 year record as a judge -- the absolute BEST evidence for evaluating Supreme Court nominees. He doesn't have a sparse record like Scalia, Thomas and Roberts. He is no Stealth Nominee. After Miers, the Wingnuts INSISTED on an Extremist. "Say it loudly!" they shouted. "The Republican Party is the Extremist Party, the Party of Dobson," the Wingnuts demanded.
And they got their man - the extreme Right Wing Judge Samuel "Scalito" Alito. As Johnny Friendly said in "On the Waterfront" -- 'you wanted him, you got em!' They got their Wingnut.
And now the Wingnut has to explain his 15 year judicial record of the most radical judicial extremism seen in a Supreme Court nominee in memory.
