I haven't seen any comments on Miers about this particular point. Forgive me if I'm duplicating but I am somewhat offended by the elitist and, yes, sexist comments about her qualifications. I read her history differently. She graduated from law school in 1970, a time when there were strict quotas limiting admission of women. At my law school (GWU) in 1971, the quota was 3%. The next year, when I started, it was 10%. It went up rapidly afterwards. But, Ms. Miers had a harder time all along the way than men of the same vintage. I conclude that she is probably a better lawyer than her record may suggest. Imagine a large Texas law firm electing her managing partner. It is still rare today!
