Here's why I think the wingnuts have gotten into an uproar over Miers.
Because they'e not getting to fight.
Explanation.
The entire hard right philosophy is based on aggression and offensive. Its not WHAT they're fighting for as the fact that they're getting to fight. That's how they can have such odd bedfellows as the aristocrats (Corporates),theocrats, and anarchists (those pro gun anti tax types).
In the rest of the planet these guys would have their guns aimed at each other becuae their aims are opposed to each other. But it doesnt matter because the goal isnt important. its the fight. The fact that they get to name call, insult, blame and hate someone else is what they really want. take a look at the right wing sites. They spend most of their time attacking "the enemy" and little time articulating an actual policy beyond no taxes, lots of guns and dead "fags/muslims/libs" .
But deep down they have an inferiority complex. The quickest way to make a wingnut splutter is to insult their intelligence. I'm not saying they're actually stupid. But they're not convinced of their superiority either.
and recent events (Iraq, Katrina, Delay) have left them feeling a bit demoralized. Even the ease of the Roberts confimation left them unsatisfied. What they wanted was Dem oppostion so they could vent how evil liberals were and blame everything on them.
Hence the need for a fight in this nomination. What they want more than anything else is to have a full blooded open Conservative nominated. have a glorious month of venting and fighting. then steam roll over thedemocrats in the Senate. Then they can say "look we won!!! you libs are so pathetic"
Instead they have a stealth candidate. Right now they're feeling like "why dont you want your friends to meet me?" For them an open conservative would have been vindication. Proof of the strength and rightousness of thier philosphy. Legitimacy.
Instead they're being treated like an ugly secret. That's why they're pissed. They wanted a fight. Bush has denie them that fight. So now they're looking for any target to vent on.
In my opinion Meirs will be "Bush conservative". What's eating at the base is that she'll be easily confirmed. They wanted a big fight (and a chance to go nuclear).
Denied that oppurtunity to fight with "libs" they venting among themselves.
but that doesnt mean Meirs isnt wingnut herself. Just that she's not open about it.
