I guess I do believe in karma. Put simply the theory is that every action by a person has a consequence on his or her life - in the present or future incarnation. I don't believe the incarnation part but I would like to think that good things happen to those who do good and bad things to do those who 'do bad'. Or even more succinctly - what goes around, comes around.
So the question is - shouldn't the collective karma of the citizens of a country add up to the karma of that country ?
What are the karmic consequences of slavery or in the Indian context - casteism ? I think they are social instability, crime and insecurity.
What will be karmic consequences of voting back a president who led the country to a unjustified war and occupation ? I think they will be a loss of security, fall in living standards and decline in moral authority.
