First I must qualify my diary by stating that I am writing about an editorial at my college newspaper, which at most has a readership of several thousand or so. However, just because it's not a major newspaper does not mean it does not reflect on the state of the news media today. In this case, the commentator is a Republican named John Bambenek who's commentary can be found
here. His problem is that he's clearly too nuts to be allowed to write in any actual degree in any serious newspaper, yet somehow he's allowed to. Using poorly researched or even outright slander is nothing to far for him.
Column: The Democrat's plantation

I was always under the impression that being African-American was about having a certain ethnicity. The U.S. Senate race in Maryland has proven me wrong. As the race continues between Michael Steele and Kweisi Mfume, both African-Americans, the Democrats exhibit more and more bigotry.
You see, Michael Steele isn't really black according to Democrats. You wouldn't know that by looking at him. He's not black to Democrats, because he's not one of them - he's a conservative Republican. For this, Democrats pelt him with Oreos at campaign events. An Oreo is a term used to describe someone who is black on the outside, but white on the inside.
According to The Washington Times, one of Mfume's staffers said, "There is a difference between pointing out the obvious and calling someone names." The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee pointed people to an image depicting Steele as a black-faced minstrel. In the first campaign scandal of 2006, two staffers for Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are under federal investigation for pulling Steele's credit report. These aren't just random people who oppose Steele, these are Democrat Party officials.
This accusation is heavy on rumor and bad report and light on facts. The article where he seem to have gotten the story came from an article in the The Washington Times, where we know much of it was made up as shown in another diary here, and has been reported ad naseum in another diary shown here.
The only parts that seems to be true were the part where some Schumer's aids acquired Steele's credit report, and they where promptly fired. There's not a lot of real facts going into this piece so far. However, the worse is yet to come.
When Trent Lott made a comment that some thought racist, there was non-stop news coverage until he stepped down from his leadership post. Where's the coverage of the Oreo-chucking racists of the Left?
The Democrats say that Republican policies are anti-black. Republicans brought you the end of slavery, the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act and the 13-15th Amendments among many others. What have the Democrats brought to the table? There's the break-up of the black family, mediocre education, abortion and affirmative action.
Oh really? Name me one Republican who brought in those achievements for black people who still has power in the Republican party. Oh wait, you can't because they are all dead. Those guys are people like Lincoln, who were Republicans of a different era. If they were alive today, they would almost unanimously be in the Democratic party. Voting demographics prove this, the South is the Republican stronghold whereas it use to be the Democratic stronghold. And it wasn't till the Civil Rights movement of the 50's and 60's did real progress was made after the civil war, and that was mostly Democrats, and Republicans were the opposers. You'd have to be downright insane to think that Republicans, as we know them today, have benefited black people in any meaningful way. And it gets more desperate as we continue:
Democratic welfare policies have largely been credited for the break-up of minority families. While Republicans want to give poor black families the opportunity to send their children to good schools with school choice programs, Democrats insist they stay in failing ghetto schools."
So suddenly the idea of school vouchers, which will take money out of the school system and give it to some unaccountable school is the solution, even though it will make the school system even worse than before. There's no reason to believe in this. Now it gets utterly insane:
"Democrats are certainly the party of abortion. That Holocaust of over 40 million children so far surpasses the body counts of two other paragons of left-wing governance, Hitler (socialist) and Stalin (communist). Black women are about three times more likely to get an abortion than white women, according to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger, whose writings include her desire to rid America of "the defective and diseased elements of humanity," which she considered blacks to be a part of.
Hitler was socialist? I could have sworn it was fascism. No matter, why would you even bring up Hitler and Stalin on a topic on abortion, since there's a ocean of difference between mass murder and abortion? And black people have more abortions because they are poor and afford to have children more often that white people. Why would you even bring Planned Parenthood? What doesn't Margaret Sanger have anything to do with this? It's obvious this guy just brought in these people so he can called Democrats worse than Hitler and Stalin, and rascist too. It gets dumber still:
This leaves affirmative action. Affirmative action, when pared down, presupposes that blacks will never be as good as white males. Sure, they wrap it in fancy terms like socioeconomic status, but if that were true, they'd base affirmative action on things like parental assets, income or where one lives. Instead, they base it solely on skin color. If Oprah Winfrey, worth $13 billion, had children, they'd get affirmative action benefits while a poor white kid from the trailers wouldn't. Republicans dispense with this notion and believe that blacks can make it given the tools.
No, affirmative action was to prevent racism against black people in applying for college and to create diversity. Please note that no form of AA brings the percent of black students on campus to any higher than their percentage in the overall population. You have to be truely nuts to think that AA implies black people are dumber. Of course the dumbest is saved for last:
That's not to say Democrats have done nothing for African-Americans. Ron Brown was one of the first African-Americans to be a Cabinet member, and he was nominated by Clinton. He was also the first African-American Cabinet member to die under suspicious circumstances. At least Democrats believe that African-Americans can be important enough to assassinate.
It is important to realize that no-agenda Democrats have done more to keep African-Americans at the back of the bus than the Klan ever could. The only former Klansman in the Senate, Robert Byrd, is a Democrat. Democrats, with their latest antics against Steele, show that if you are black, you better stay on the plantation. Instead of celebrating the freedom of black America, they enforce a rigid orthodoxy. This is why they protest Steele. This is why they protest anything they consider heresy.
So now Democrats are not just a bunch of racists they also murder black people too. That's takes the cake for the most idiotic and offensive statement he's made. And the Dems are even worse that the Klan too. Of course you must excuse the thousands of black people lynched by the Klan if you want to make this judgement, and the massive decisions made people who have now joined the Republican party to limit African American rights in the South and elsewhere. And apparently no one can repudiate being a racist before in the "D" party, even if it was more than 50 years ago like Byrd.
And the reason why Democrats protest against guys like Steele is because he works against black interests and the interest of the poor, not for. And that "rigid orthodoxy" was the same beliefs that freed the slaves and gave black people most of the rights they enjoy now, and the beliefs now carried primarily by people who now are in the Republican party have opposed this every single step of the way.
So there, I am able to shrug off the sheer stupidity of what passes for a seriously article in a newspaper. And it's written is very indicative of how many Republicans think, and its nothing but a slew of hate, anger, and lies. There's absolutely no justification for any of his main points and for all practical purposes he made up an entire article using bad to nonexistence sources for the sole purpose of launch a massive, but absurd, tirade against the Democrats.
