Now that our Democratic leaders are pulling together and finding their voice, let's show them that we appreciate it. I sent this letter to my Congressman, Jim Moran (D, Va.) this morning:
Dear Congressman Moran:
I am writing to express my feelings over House Resolution 571. My husband and I watched the debate and the vote on C-Span last night, in its entirety. I am outraged at the hypocrisy evidenced by your Republican colleagues in bringing this obvious political stunt to the floor for a vote. Their accolades for Congressman Murtah fall flat when taken in conjunction with the fraudulent smear campaign that they and their partners in the current administration are attempting to perpetrate upon a man who has served his country with dignity, honor and distinction. Listening to Congressman Murtah speak, I was struck by the contrast with the Republican speakers - their plaititudes and five-second soundbite speeches did not fare well against his honest, simple and from-the-heart remarks. The letters from the soldiers and their families brought me to tears, several times.
Congressman Moran, I want to commend you and your Democratic colleagues for standing against this dishonest and petulant act by the Republicans. It is obvious that they put Party over Country, and do not speak for their constituents. We are grateful that, thanks to you, we have a voice in our government. Please keep fighting for us, and know that you have our support.
