Jim Jubak exposes the real problem behind GM's fall. Business commentatiors are finally writing about how corruption, stupidity, greed and indolence are destrying American business.
This the second great piece about GM. The other was in Business Week- can't find the link. But they addressed the lack of investmment in R and D, half what Toyota does. Of course the big political stick to beat the Repubs with is their ongoing refusal to include SUVs in mileage standards. For thirty years the end of cheap oil has been slapping GM across the face and they can't build one decent compact sedan to compete with Accord and Camry.
The 06 and 08 elections will be about pragmatism, competence and common sense. Let's keep our heads - don't fall for the wedge issue bait - the mantra must be COMPETENT EFFICIENT GOVERNMENT THAT STAYS OUT OF YOUR PRIVATE LIFE. Barry Goldwater would love it.
