"Deputy Police Chief Howard Jordan said Yusuf Bey IV, 19, and Donald Eugene Cunningham, 73, turned themselves in at Oakland police headquarters Tuesday after a judge signed arrest warrants for them and four other men not identified by police.
The warrants issued Tuesday ask prosecutors to charge the six with vandalism, robbery, conspiracy and making terrorist threats, all felonies, police said."
"Part of the vandalism was caught by a surveillance camera. Police are still working to identify as many as five other African-American men who smashed glass displays and dozens of bottles of liquor at New York Market and San Pablo Market and Liquor.
Police would not say whether Bey or Cunningham were affiliated with Your Black Muslim Bakery, an Oakland-based chain of bakeries established 30 years ago by Black Muslims living in the East Bay. One of the suspects is the namesake of the bakery's founder. Yusuf Bey died of colon cancer in 2003.
However, other city officials were willing to link the vandalism to the bakery group. City Councilman Larry Reid said Tuesday that when he viewed the surveillance video from the San Pablo Market, ``I recognized several men I knew were with the bakery.''
Reid said he had contacts with Bey's group a few years ago when Oakland's elected officials and religious leaders worked together to form ``Black Men First,'' an effort to help young African-American men find jobs and other opportunities"
Ok, this really pisses me off. Let me get this straight-fundamentalists can bomb abortion clinics in this country to kill and maim nurses, can assasinate physicians because they don't happen to agree with the type of care he or she renders-and be lionized as a result.
But let some Muslim fundamentalists wreck a liquor store that was selling liquor to neighborhood Muslims and that's a terrorist threat?
Give me a break.
So now, anytime a Muslim in this country breaks a law, it's a terrorist action? We're back to witchhunts?
What do YOU think about this?
