If it's Tuesday, it must be Dean's second congressional endorsement of the week.
WASHINGTON--Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson today endorsed Governor Howard Dean, citing his proven track record in developing and helping rural America.
"I am extremely excited to announce my support for Howard Dean's [presidential] candidacy," said Congressman Thompson. "I am convinced that Howard's fresh, new ideas will help America realize its full potential as a nation that provides equal opportunity and equal access for all. As a Mississippi Democrat, I appreciate the Governor's passion and commitment to job creation, expanding our healthcare system and empowering our public schools."
"I sincerely appreciate Bennie Thompson's support in our campaign to take our country back," Governor Dean said. "For a decade, he has spoken for rural America and understands the critical importance of supporting agriculture and expanding information infrastructure into rural communities to ensure their success and way of life."
Thompson was elected to represent Mississippi's Second District in a special election in April 1993. He currently serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. The Second Congressional District of Mississippi contains much of the Mississippi Delta and includes Vicksburg, Greenville and parts of Jackson.
Congressman Thompson's endorsement is the 32nd from a U.S.representative, and the governor's seventh from a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and fifth from a southern Democrat.
