Today, Bush lies again to the world and to Americans.
Quote from the AP:
http://news.yahoo.com/...
"Our country is at war and our government has the obligation to protect the American people," Bush said. "Any activity we conduct is within the law. We do not torture."
This is simply
unacceptable. Bush lies in the face of known facts (Abu-Ghraib, Guantanamo, etc) and his own documented government policy (threats to veto McCain's anti-torture legilation).
The media HAS to challenge this statement made in our name to the world. We cannot allow our president to disgrace and sully America's name and our flag. Bush must either retract or qualify his statement, immediately.
This is legalese of the most dsgusting and insulting order. On their face, his words seem to mean just that: "Americans don't torture", and that is exactly how he wants his uninformed/blind constituencies to understand it.
However, in the community of people with brains (a.k.a the reality based community), we understand that his words a nothing but legalese filth, worded to sustain a challenge in a court of law.
What he's really saying is that electrocuting genitalia is cool, if deemed in our interest. Raping humans with fluorescent tubes is a'ight, if the perpetrator has reason to believe it will save our asses. Beating people to death is justified in case of imminent danger.
Problem is, in in this fucking "war on terror" which we were shoved into, in which it's better to be safe that sorry, the bar is so low, that the govt essentially is, in fact, condoning torture.
It's complete anarchy, it's chaos, there are no more rules, no more laws. The law is relative and up to infinite interpretation. It's not there to regulate the boundaries of acceptable conduct and ensure we live in a civil society, it's there to cover our asses and excuse our incompetence. We are in a perpetual state of danger and under constant threat, so any way you look at it, acts of torture are permissble, because, even if only incrementally, they contribute and are part of the war.
This is so fucking wrong. Bush is blowing the "war". Blowing the coutry and fucking the rule of law in the process.
His latest statement MUST be challenged.
