While it would be tremendous if Leslie Byrne can pull it out for Lieutenant Governor, stating with confidence Governor Kaine is a positive way to end this campaign and evening. It also looks like the Commonwealth's House of Delegates will shift somewhat more D, which will make reasonable governance a more legitimate expectation in the coming years. With that in perspective, there is something that we Kossacks can do to help exploit this win in the broader political arena. We should make sure to frame VA as a rejection of Bush rather than a vote of support to Warner.
Governor Bush visited the Commonwealth this past Sunday to work for the Kilgore campaign. Now, the Kaine camp can't say the following, we can ... let us try to Frame the result ...
"We sighed with relief as we learned that George Bush was heading into the Commonwealth. Until then, the internal polls showed Kaine neck and neck with Kilgore. The President's visit was a critical moment for the surge to the Kaine path to victory."
Let us make sure to frame the Virginia election not as a reaffirmation of the Warner legacy but as a test of the nation's view of George Bush. By voting for Kaine, the red Commonwealth of Virginia has stated that it made a mistake voting for George Bush in 2004.
