I'm actually going to stay out of this discussion, because I'd like to hear what others have to say: I'm still trying to get a sense of this community. So if you're inclined to flame me for asking this: knock yourself out.
It seems to me that there are, in general, three categories of people here.
- About 49% are fundamentally fair-minded people: They believe in fairness first, political ideology second.
- Another 49% are essentially driven by ideology: They believe the fights ahead of us too important to lose: they'll be fair when things settle down, but right now, we just need to win
- About 2% are trollish: either people who want to confuse the issues, or who are confused themselves. By and large, these people announce themselves quickly, and are ignored accordingly (and yes, I see the flamebair here)
Hence, this poll. Where, exactly, are the majority of people here? Are you( we: whatever) willing to win at any cost? Or are we willing to lose, so long as we stand by our principles? I know these are somewhat extreme ends of the spectrum( who says, for example, we can't be honest
& and win? For that matter, why can't someone be essentially fair, but still willing to go all out when it's all said and done?).
My point here's isn't to make this an easy question: my point is to try and see which way the majority of the people here would go, if they had to go one way or the other.
Thanks,
M
