There's been some talk recently about trying to figure out exactly what it's like down in New Orleans these days. I know that I've felt like there has been little to no coverage done up about it in the news. And with all signs pointing towards the administration having abandoned the Gulf Coast, it's something we should be talking about.
Recently, a friend of mine went down to New Orleans to create a video documentary on the situation. Come take a flip with me...
My friend works for the Episcopal Church and has done a couple of other documentaries for them. When he told us he was going down to New Orleans over Thanksgiving break, we were curious about how it would go. Was it still dangerous down there? What about the pollution and the weather? Someone suggested he go armed. Thankfully, he came back safe and sound after his trip, and he brought this video with him. The video is about 30 minutes long and is free for online viewing.

(Sorry- I can't figure out these newfangled hotlinks, so you get a copied and pasted link)
On top of that, he posted an article at pop culture site YourMomsBasement.com about his travels. That link can be found at http://www.yourmomsbasement.com/...
Keep in mind, those pictures are from around thanksgiving, but they look like they're from early September. The city is still a mess.
We've been talking about getting some more exposure on the ground about what it's really like in the Gulf Coast region. If you feel like this is something worth talking about, feel free to recommend. Either way, I'd ask you to pass the video around- it's well done and focuses on the people who have been affected by the disaster.
