Abraham Lincoln challenged the South's seccession based upon his solemn inaugural oath to defend the Constitution, and the bloodletting of the Civil War cemented the primacy of the Constitution above all other ideologies. Yet many Southerners, conservatives and religious fundamentalists refuse to regard the Constitution as sacrosanct, a heresy that liberals disbelieve at their peril. The Constitution has internal enemies! Conservatives regard the ACLU as anti-American-and-worse 'though its credo and acts are solely to defend the Bill of Rights no matter if you are Madelyn Murray O'Hare or Rush Limbaugh. More....
These opponents of the Constitution would be regarded as Rebels by Lincoln and Tories by Washington, Madison, Jefferson, even Hamilton, except that King George the IV is now King George W. Bush. The Bushes and their class have used their vast wealth to deliberately undermine the Constitution. In a recent meeting, when an aide cautioned that the Patriot Act (or a portion thereof) would undermine the Constitution, George Bush screamed, "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It's just a goddamned piece of paper!" I'd bet you could've heard a flag-pin drop. He had spoken their most dreadful truth. To liberals, it is as if one of the current crop of Elmer Gantrys had screamed, "Stop throwing the Bible in my face! It's just a goddamned bronze-age book!"
Despite the Supreme Court's illigitimate appointment of Bush, he does not represent the interests of the United States as Lincoln and most reality-based Americans perceive it. Bush represents only the wealthy and their dream of worldwide economic hegemony.
Bush at a high-dollar fundraiser: "Some call you the have-mores. I call you my base". Can you imagine a decent President saying that?
Through their control of mass propaganda channels, they have made it politically incorrect for me, and you, to say, 'This, my patriot comrades (oops! a poison word), is economic class warfare!' Spreading the word is impeded by, not only their control of the print, broadcast and cable megaphone and its clubby chattering class, but by dumbing-down public education so that the public will choose to watch Fox News because the violence and hatred that it advocates, perfectly reflects the frustration that makes them seek scapegoats that are different from themselves.
Thus it was essential that the conservatives find amicable anti-intellectual dumbass candidates who could lie with faux-dignity before an audience. Ronald Reagan was their first victory, boosted into office by a treasonous hostage deal with Iran. George H. W. Bush, being a bit too intelligent, betrayed their mantra: 'No tax on the rich'. Dan Quayle flunked the test altogether. Both amicable and intelligent Bill Clinton was their worst nightmare yet he triangulated the destruction of welfare and Aid For Dependent Children. Ah but George W. Bush was just right.
What do they feel about the United States? Well, it is their ride just now but they can hardly wait to abandon costly American labor and technologists, by which time their investments and enterprises will be safely ensconced overseas where the action will be, which they conspire to control.
Folks, they intend to abandon America. They don't like it anyway (except for its financial assets) and they don't like its people.
Fuck the Constitution! It's just a goddamned piece of paper.
