On Saturday at 4pm, I will board a plane bound for California and say goodbye to the state of my birth. To my fellow Michigan kossacks, I want to say that, though I never met any of you, it's been a pleasure fighting the good fight with you. My political activity spans 16 years from Jim Blanchard to Jennifer Granholm, from Don Reigle to Debbie Stabenow. I'll always remember politicians from both parties who came and went, some of which include:
and many, many others.
I'll miss the Detroit Lions for all those years of entertainment. I'll miss paczkis, Faygo Soda, Hockey Night in Canada, the big tire on I-94. I'll miss fighting with and against the MacNamara machine, getting drunk in East Dearborn, "canvassing" at Subi's in Southgate and watching the police periodically raid the massage parlor near my apartment.
I'll miss my friends, relatives and coworkers. Perhaps one day I'll miss the weather (though not right now). I'll miss living in a "battleground state", even though, by Election Day, I want them to just go away. However, I know where my future lies and I look forward to the challenges ahead.
Goodbye, Michigan. I'll be back, but not oo soon.
