I understand that there's just been an announcement on the 6 pm news on local NBC in D.C. that John Spencer, the actor playing Leo McGarry in the show "The West Wing", has died of a heart attack at age 58 (this via a phone call from my partner).
Not sure what that'll mean for one of my favorite TV shows. It's bizarre how here in particular, art imitated life. FOR REAL.
I'm wondering if they'll just cancel the show or replace the character. It is hard for me to imagine how they'll find another curmudgionly character like John Spencer, though, to play the part. Given that he is the Dem candidate's vice pres running mate, that's going to make it doubly difficult to deal with this situation.
When it shows up in the news, I'll post a link.
Update: There's a forum for West Wing here where it looks like, if you're interested in such things, they'll be chatting about what this might mean for the show.
RIP John Spencer :-(
