People on both sides of the ideological divide are rightly going to go batshit about Bush's illegal spying. Hit now, and hit hard, on your local papers. This has to be talked about to everyone who will listen.
My letter below the flip. Use its ideas as you see fit.
Imagine you lived in a country where the government pays reporters to write propaganda columns in support of government programs, without telling you that such payments exist.
Imagine you lived in a country that could invade your home, search it, and never have to tell you that such a search had occurred.
Imagine you lived in a country that could monitor your phone conversations without even having to ask a judge to issue a warrant.
Imagine a country that tortures people, even to death, in order to obtain confessions that they know are more likely than not to be false.
Imagine you lived in a country that could lock you up indefinitely, without charging you with a crime, because they claimed you were an enemy of the state.
You do.
And all of these things have occurred in the past five years.
In the name of defending freedom, the Bush administration and the Republican Congress have made a mockery of our rights and liberties.
