My Version of the Martin Niemöller Poem

First they detained without trial
and I did not speak out
because I was willing to undermine
the Bill of Rights to fight terror.

Then they wiretapped without warrants
and I did not speak out
because I was willing to sacrifice
the our freedom in name of security.

Then they staged a war without a declaration
and I did not speak out
because I was willing to overlook
the Constitution for propaganda.

Then they came for me
and there was nothing
about the Law
that protects me from them.
