Something I have noticed a lot of recently is the immense discrimination against Republicans and Conservatives by many members of this Blog. This worries me, because I came here thinking that it would be an oasis from all that kind of hate, but it is a different kind. I have many friends who have different political views than I, yet I never assume that they are "rethugs or repugs" or evil.
They are good people, just with a different view of life and how it works. Just because a few are corrupt, does not mean they all are. I have noticed that when Conservatives come onto this board, they are shunned. We Liberals claim to be pro-free speech, but if we exhibit attitudes towards different people that undermine their free-speech, we are just as bad as we claim them to be. Republicans are characterized as vile people on here, but who are we to say whether they are vile or not? Democracy should not lean one way or another, lest it collapse, but should be a balance. Only through a balance can we truly achieve Democracy. Not all Republicans are Christians, not all Republicans dislike gays or abortion. Our beliefs do not signify whether we are good or bad, yet several people on this blog seem to believe that if you are conservative, you are plotting against the liberals to take over the world. How are we to gain people's belief if we spout (what seems like) crazy statements. We certainly cannot rejoice in the pain of others, even if they are Bush, Cheney or whoever. Phrases such as "I hope Bush dies" are not helping. They are just pulling our side farther from rationability, and farther away from votes.
