I think I found the ointment for the whole "war on Christmas" business. It's not a war on Christmas. It's the beginning of the de-commercialization of Christmas.
I was in a heated debate with a co-worker and as soon as I dropped that bomb the mailbox was silent. The right's fight to keep Christmas in Wal-mart, works against the notion that Christmas has gotten too commercial.
