I'd like to write a diary that has nothing to do with politics, but has everything to do with life and what politics should be all about, fulfilling the inner joy of all people. I'd like to propose a question.
What experiences do you truly love?
My list is bellow the fold.
Watching people of all sexes, races, orientations, and backgrounds getting together and dancing on roller-skates in Central Park. The joy that the give off and the hope of MLK's dream in their experience is breathtaking.
Driving along the Maricon, the seaside highway, in Santo Domingo. You see the water splash up against the rocks and the sun shine off the crystal blue water. When you go to the airport, you have to see this, and it is hard to hold back the sadness of leaving such beauty.
Listening to a piece of music that really expresses the humanity, history, and the culture of the artist and his or her people.
Watching a play or a movie that "holds the mirror up to nature", as Hamlet so eloquently put it.
The way a father's eyes light up when his child walks in the room.
Taking a bike ride along Kelly Drive with the crew teams in the Schuylkill River with the sun setting in the background.
Having a great conversation with a friend over good coffee, beer, and/or cigars (any two will do).
Seeing humanity, in all it glory and sadness.
Life!
