Being out of touch from the RWCM this Sunday morning, I'm unable to see the publicity appearances and punditry pontifications on the talk shows. I would have assumed that Dean would be the talk, but knowing how the monkey show producers like to please the current emperor, there very well could be a sweep of appearances by the second undersecretary to the assistant to the deputy second Secretary of Agriculture -- because if someone from the White House is made available to talk, that's news, isn't it?
Anyway, I am sure the RWCM's spin on Dean will continue -- going on about how radical he is, and re-airing "the scream" as if that somehow were indicative of anything except their absence of anything to say. And inside the Beltway, this will be considered fair and balanced because the Vichy Democrats are just as scared of Dean, and don't like anyone questioning their eagerness to appease.
But this is a time for the people to reclaim the Democratic Party....
<!--break-->
Time for the people to reclaim the direction and tone and depth of political discourse. Time for the progressives in this country to take down the wingnut inner circle that is systematically destroying this country and everything it stands for by embracing torture (which is what they
do, despite what they
say), military imperialism (which is what they
do, despite what they
say), endorsement of religion (here and abroad) (which is what they
do, despite what they
say), destruction of the environment (which is what they
do, despite what they
say), dismantling of education (which is what they
do, despite what they
say), and (to close a very non-comprehensive list) destroying the very financial health of the government and nation, recklessly risking the collapse of the economy(which is what they
do, despite what they
say).
It's time to demand that the media stand independent of their right-wing corporate owners and report what's really happening. (Yes, perhaps this is futile, but the complaint needs to be registered -- early and often.)
It's time to get the Vichy Democrats to realize that they gain nothing by trying to be kinder and gentler neo-cons.
It's time for we the people to speak out and be heard and be listened to and be obeyed! It's our country, all of ours. All of us speak. All of us have a say. All of us own this country. "Of the people, by the people and for the people," and all that.
What the pundit monkeys don't "get" is that Dean does not mean a radical shift in message -- not directly -- but a very radical shift in tactics and strategy. Dean recognizes that it's the people who need to be calling the shots, the people need to be framing the debate, the people need to be forging the Democratic Party -- and it's the leadership who should listen and hear and respond.
"Well, that's all the time we have for today. Tune in next week, when we will have more newsmaker interviews where we ask softball questions and accept any answer that comes out of the mouths of our guests."
