The Chmait family received word from the Orange County's Sheriff's office yesterday that the investigation into the shooting of Bassim Chmait was 80% complete. They said that the situation remains the same, the shooting was not considered a crime.
Just to re-cap, an off-duty U.S. Customs agent shot Bassim Chmait in the head early in the morning on the 5th. The agent was in his bathrobe, and was angry about he noise coming form a neighboring apartment. It has only received a few AP wire stories, and three write-ups in the Orange County Register's Local section. If you want to learn more of the incident, go to, www.justiceforbassim.com. The shooting of a 13-year old in Los Angeles has received a lot of media attention, and this atrocity deserves the same scrutiny. Bassim was committing no crime, while the 13 year old stole a car and was ramming police with it.
