Okay, someone had to say this. After all the recent Powerline stuff, along with the 'left as terrorists' meme that has been present for some time, I just can't take it anymore. So while I hate to stoop to the level of childish name-calling (No no no YOU support the terrorists) I need to get this off my chest. (I apologize for the lack of links but all my references are pretty mainstream).
To all Republicans, right wing bloggers (particularly Hindrocket and Glenn Reynolds), and anyone else who would accuse me of supporting the terrorists:
Why do you support the terrorists?
But I am a true patriot, I worship at the altar of W, how can I support the terrorists? You ask. Let me enlighten you:
1. You blatantly capitalize on the fear of terrorists to increase your political power. Remember how the summer before the election was filled with terror alerts, and we haven't had ONE since the election that I am aware of. Funny that. Or when Dick Cheney implied that if John Kerry were elected we would face more attacks? You need the fear, you feed on it, it makes you stronger, and that is why you are so ill-equipped to actually fight the terrorists, you can't live without them.
2. Your energy policy amounts to funding both sides of the war on terror. We all know that oil revenues fund terrorists. The difference is you don't want to do anything about it. Bush's energy `plan' amounts to `more oil, more refineries' which will, in the end, mean `more terrorism' (and the miniscule amount of oil underneath ANWAR wont change this at all). But any government interventions to increase automobile fuel efficiency or develop sources of alternative energy are meat with strong resistance from the right. I cannot for the life of me understand why you oppose this most obvious anti-terror tactic, unless oil company revenues are more important than the war on terror.
3. You constantly seek to undermine our freedoms, handing the terrorists their first real victory. Bush is fond of saying the terrorists attack us because they "hate our freedom." But if this is true why is the first response by Bush, happily backed by the right wing crazies, to curtail our freedom? The PATRIOT act is a huge victory for the terrorists as it accomplishes what they never could, making our country less free. Who would have thought that the party of `small government' would be promoting a national ID card? That would seem like a big government liberal thing but James Sensenbrenner's REAL ID act would do just that. I could go on, but the secret service will no doubt be calling soon.
4. Your patriotism is a false patriotism. You seem to think that if you slap a `support our troops' bumper sticker on the back of your car, that makes you a patriot, but it is nothing more than nationalistic jingoism. True patriots know that defending our country means the defending the values that make our democracy great. These values include, among others, being a nation governed by the law and not torturing people. Yet you stand in the sidelines and cheer as the executive branch states that the president is above the law, detains U.S. citizens at will with no legal recourse, and condones the torture of prisoners on a wide scale. I don't think the founding fathers would be proud.
5. You align yourselves with religious fundamentalists. If you actually stop to think about it (which I know you never do) Jerry Falwell and Osama are not that different. They both want to create a theocratic state where laws are made according to religious beliefs, not necessarily based on any evidence as to whether or not they help people. They both use their religion to demonize their opponents. The evidence for this is all around, if you are too clueless to see this for yourself, I can't help you. Just because they use slightly different texts is irrelevant.
I just can't help but conclude that you, the right-wing of America, is objectively pro-terrorist. I really want to believe it's not true, but the evidence is just too overwhelming.
