BEVERLY HILLS -- Detectives in Citrus County said Friday they have received approximately 50 tips about a couple sought in the torture of five malnourished and battered teenagers living with them.
John and Linda Dollar are wanted on aggravated child abuse charges after five of the seven children living with them told detectives they were tortured. The teenagers said they suffered electric shocks, beatings and had toenails yanked out with pliers.
The abused five were so severely malnourished that they weighed no more than elementary school children and had physical injuries to back up their claims, said the the Citrus County Sheriff's Office in Crystal River.
The five were forced to sleep in a closet in the Dollars' bedroom because the couple accused them of stealing food and misbehaving, sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney said.

Sorry about the formatting, this is my first diary.
Didn't the AP listen to the AG confirmation debates? Have they no respect for Senator Lieberman? Torture is only when there is organ failure or death, and clearly these children are alive? Just feed them and they'll be fine.
The way to bring this issue home to callous Repubs who are fooling themselves is to equate it to American children. 24 of the first 30 links to this story on Google News use the word "torture." Besides, headlines are all that an individual newspaper really contributes these days, then they cut and paste from AP.
Is it too late to discuss this now that Gonzales is confirmed?
