Alright, in an attempt to confront what I at least feel is the important issue of fixing/improving the diary system, but to do so in a punchy "bite-size" way that might, just might, get some attention, I'm going to write what might be the first meta-meta diary. That is, a diary about diaries about diaries. Keep with me on this one, after the break...
First off, I'd like to plug
Armando's ultimatum about no double-posting. This alone would help a lot of the problems, as less redundancy would mean the diary queue wouldn't move so fast and would be packed with more original content.
Secondly, I'd like to plug my own musings regarding signal-to-noise and resulting in a discussion with several proposals (from my "Diary Spelunkers" to a simpler categorization system) offered. Particularly, I think this comment is golden.
And lastly I'd like to plug jsmdlawyer's bit about not deleting diaries, and say I agree 110%. I was recently involved in an embroiled discussion regarding American Dad. I made several lengthy and well-moderated comments refuting the diary poster (who shall go nameless), several other people did the same, and then poof instead of responding or accepting the diary is deleted. Perhaps changing it so only full editors can actually delete diaries and everybody else can only add-on revisions to their existing diaries would be best.
So, that's that. Yes, one of the plugs is shameless (e.g. talking about my own earlier diary), but I really do feel all these topics are worthy of discussion. Let's meta-meta it all up in here! And of course feel free to bring up other topics or angles or viewpoints, but I'm just going to leave it at this in the hopes that this diary is digestible enough to be read and discussed (hint hint)...
