It's finally here! The effort initiated by Pastor Dan has grown into an organization devoted to building a convention DailyKos style--
through Open Source Collaboration.
Visit the website, take a tour and see how the rumored YearlyKos Convention is becoming a reality.
Meet you on the other side of the flip!
WHO WE ARE...
Executive Organizers: SheaBrianna Christilaw, Tom Santoriello, and Gina Cooper
We've spent hundreds of hours working on this project. We hope that the work we've done speaks for itself and earns the community's endorsement for our continued leadership of this project.
OUR PHILOSOPHY...
The three of us have adopted this mission: to bring together members of the DailyKos.com community & the progressive movement through conventions, training, & advocacy. We've also adopted a philosophy: we do not "own" the YearlyKos Convention; we are here to help the DailyKos Community build it.
THE ADVISORY BOARD...
Transparency of process is the hallmark of any Open Source work. With that in mind, we are excited to announce the members of the YearlyKos Advisory Board

The Advisory Board will consist of trusted DailyKos Contributors and will take primary responsibility for representing the desires, hopes, and expectations of the 40,000+ DailyKos members, when such information is not readily available. The Advisory Board has a direct responsibility to the DailyKos Community to provide transparency and oversight of the Executive Organizers and the entirety of the YearlyKos Convention. We are grateful to our Advisory Board Members for taking on this responsibility and for all the positive impact they have on our community.
DATE AND LOCATION...
To plan a convention worthy of our community, May 2005 was just too soon. After brainstorming, June of 2006 seemed a better date, leaving time to plan with maximum community input. Also, June 2006 is after the primaries and before the midterms--good timing since our community is so active around election time and more likely to be influential in political circles.
With a better date, location options opened. We are exploring a variety of locations in the following cities: Chicago, Washington D.C., San
Francisco, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Las Vegas. To date, we have received over fifty responses, with more forthcoming. We hope to make a decision on the location by the end of April with respect to the best package at the lowest cost.
WHAT WE NEED NOW...
The success of this project depends on the generous spirit of the DailyKos community. We need many volunteers both immediately and in the future.
Briefly, there are several professional leadership positions that we need to fill as soon as possible:
- Legal Director
- Accounting Director
We are limited in our next steps until these positions are filled. For in depth descriptions, contact us at
yearlykos@gmail.com
NEXT STEPS...
What we CAN do now is begin Organizing Community Input
We need volunteers to lead community discussions on how our convention should address our diversity so that we can best unify our issues in a
shared mission. If you want to ensure the best representation of your favorite cause, consider volunteering to lead discussions as Chair of one of the Issue Committees.
It all depends on you! This is all about building a YearlyKos Convention that you want. The final product is up to you. We're putting in place a structure for a strong foundation, but you are the builders in this project. It all depends on you.
Where does Markos fit in to all this?
Markos has said he is behind this, "as long as all I have to do is show up." But so far he has done more than just show up. He has provided us
free web hosting, blogads space, and advice. We appreciate his support and look forward to his continued "showing up".
FINAL THOUGHTS...
We believe in this project because we believe in the DailyKos Community. We humbly submit our work to you and hope you find it as exciting as we do.
Respectfully Yours,
Shea, Tom, and Gina
