Mel Gibson has his recut "The Passion" opening in theaters this week minus (some) of the gore but it looks like he has a new cause celbre. In this small
Report it looks like he's picking up the gauntlet for Terry Schiavo.
Buoyed by encouragement from actor Mel Gibson, the family of Terri Schiavo pleaded for her life, just days before the court-ordered removal of her feeding tube. About 200 people prayed and sang Saturday outside the hospice where the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman lives. Another demonstration on the woman's behalf is scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Tallahassee. Bob Schindler said he spoke to Gibson -- "The Passion of The Christ" director -- on Friday. He said Gibson told him, "to hammer God with prayers and hammer him hard." The removal of Schiavo's feeding tube is scheduled for March 18.
He can get involved with anything he wants but how come Mel will get a free pass as a celebrity getting involved in controversial issues but left-wing celebrities get 'crucified' by the media (sorry, i couldn't resist). Funny, where is Mel when someone on Death Row in Texas is being executed, after all the Catholic Church supposedly frowns on that issue but i don't see Mel holding vigils in Huntsville every month.
