He's Fairfield University poli sci professor and democratic activist John Orman, according to today's
New Haven Register. In 1984, Orman ran unsuccessfully as the Democratic candidate for Congress in the Fourth District, a seat held by Republicans for as long as I remember.
Orman says the final impetus to challenge Lieberman was "The Kiss." "Our party's senator is no longer a Democrat," he says. "He has joined the Republican Party."
For now, however, the candidacy remains hypothetical. Orman has established an advisory committee to determine whether he has a legitimate chance of beating Lieberman. So this run may not happen, but I'm glad to see someone step up and publicly announce his opposition to Lieberman's re-election. If Orman does run, he says he sees the race as part of a national debate on what it is to be a Democrat. "There is no better place to have that debate," he says, "than in Connecticut."
