Stop falling for wedge politics. People here are going out of their way to make this into a Democrats vs Republicans issue, falling right into the wedge trap. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, its not even a political issue. When you make it a political issue then you are deciding that the government should be involved in this issue.
This is a cultural issue pure and simple, and it will be decided by the courts, not the politicians.
This issue is a court issue. This issue is a legal issue. Thats it, the end. There are far more important things going on in the world than this one situation. Yes its sad that someone is dying, but thousands of people die every day of hunger, disease etc. This is not new, and its only a big deal because the media is making a big deal of it, just like they did with Scott Peterson. Why are these people all over the TV? Why do I have to go on dailykos and see thousands of diaries on Terri Schiavo, and Lacy Peterson and all this stuff. These people are hand picked by the media for a reason. Just because the media hand picks a story does not mean the blogsphere has to run with it and then try to turn it into a political issue. I think its foolish to waste time with this issue. Let the courts handle it. Let the politicians who want to save her do what they can and let the politicians who don't want to get involved avoid getting involved. If I were a politician I'd vote along with the Republicans on this, but each politician has a right to stay out of this situation as well.
Let the courts decide, not the media, not the politicians, the courts. If the courts say she dies then she dies. Many other people have been in this same situation and the courts have allowed the plug to be pulled on them and for them to be allowed to die. This is an assisted suicide case, its common, and its a 100% legal case and 0% political case. If husband has clear and conclusive evidence that she wanted to die, meaning written and recorded evidence. Then she should be allowed to die. If its he said she said, then I favor keeping her alive but I'm not the judge. The judge will ultimately decide. Thats it, not lets stay far away from this because it has nothing to do with us or our opinions, politics or anytihng. It's just a media event being exploited to get rating and being used as a wedge issue.
