Senator's Hitler Comparison on Judicial Nominees "Offensive and Insensitive"
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
It is hideous, outrageous and offensive for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics could in any way resemble those of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.
The Senator shows a profound lack of understanding as to who Hitler was and what he and his regime represented.
Senator Byrd must repudiate his remarks immediately and apologize to the American people for showing such disrespect for this country's democratic process.
As my views differ, I went to the ADL website first to confirm what I'd read and then to get in touch with someone at ADL and pass on `my opinion'. However the Anti-Defamation League only offers 5 contact options (1) Report Anti-Semitic Incidents; 2) Support the ADL - Contribute Now!; 3) The Hidden Child Foundation: 4) Contact ADL (Webmaster) & 5) Media Inquiries)
Had I been able to contact the ADL directly I probably wouldn't be posting my first diary.
This posing is *ONLY* a differ opinion than that stated by the ADL. No disrespect for their fine work is intended.
Three Questions for Mr. Foxman
1) How can you say it 'hideous, outrageous and offensive' for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics resemble those of Adolf Hitler?
With your access to the facts surrounding Hitler's rise to power can you honestly see no correlation?
2) Why do you think the Senator suffers a profound lack of understanding?
Until the atrocities and horrors perpetrated by Hitler and his regime came to light many right-minded people defended their actions.
3) When does ones actions become `disrespect for this country's democratic process'? It's for history, not for us (you or me) to judge. Let's pray that there is no need for other words to redefine ADF 50 years from now.
