CNN and Gallup have a new poll out showing support for Social Security privatization continues to fall despite the media's focus on Schiav-o-rama:
In the CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey of 909 adult Americans taken Friday through Sunday, 40 percent approved of President Bush's approach to Social Security and 53 percent disapproved. The question had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percentage points.
Meanwhile, Bush the great defender of life was... guess...
Allies of the president have launched TV ads supporting his ideas and Bush himself is traveling the country drumming up support.
"Let's come to the table. All ideas are on the table. And let's get this problem solved once and for all," he told supporters at a town hall-style rally Tuesday in New Mexico.
Bush also jet-setted around Colorado and Arizona yesterday, with John McCain in tow.
While Schiav-o-rama comes to its climax today (will the Supreme Court grant cert?), Bush is meeting today with Canadian PM Paul Martin and Mexican president Vicente Fox to talk trade deals. Meanwhile, Dick Cheney is going to Pittsburgh to push privatization.
Meanwhile, The Guardian reports today that the annual OASDI report is due out any day now, which may be contentious as the report will likely contain pro-"crisis" spin.
It's gone under the radar, to be sure, but the fight over Social Security is still going on. Let's not forget to fight back. We cannot afford to be knocked "off message" and allow Bush to "wipe the slate clean" and start all over again with a fresh batch of lies and distortions.
