Due to the threat posed by the current political situation, President George W. Bush has sent an urgent message to the CDC in Atlanta, requesting that they immediately start work on a "Republican booster shot."
While the initial source of immunity has been debated, it is clear from reports across that nation that a possible epidemic of critical thought is looming. According to an unnamed source at the National Center for Infectious Diseases, emergency response teams are being mobilized to stop the current outbreak.
"We thought the immunity to seeing irony and hypocrisy in politicians was long lasting. All of our previous studies indicated that was true. Current information has shown an alarming increase in the number of people in the general population who have noted inconsistencies between the rhetoric and the actions of the right. This poses an immediate threat to our nation's power structure, and the President has tasked us with providing a treatment that will limit the damage.
"We are hopeful that, despite the lack of funding for non-military expenditures, we still have the resources to respond to this situation."
The long standing threat of people waking up to what is actually happening in their government has been discussed in certain circles. The lack of basic research into the roots of the condition may hinder the efforts to control the spread of skepticism and snarkiness. Experts are divided on the best response to the situation
A senior epidemiologist, who requested anonymity, summed it up:
"You always wonder where there comes a tipping point, and those maladies endemic to a smaller community will spread into the larger population. It's all so new that predicting the exact nature of the outbreak is problematic."
Spokesman Scott McClellan summed it up:
"The President is very concerned, and doing all he can in response to this threat to our nation. There is no current therapy to stop the spread of this threat.
"Once we have found a way return to turning a blind eye to demagogues and opportunists it will be distributed through the Public Health channels of the Homeland Security Department.
"Until an effective treatment is found we are requesting that all Americans use only Fox news as an information source. That action may limit the effect of this malady.
"The President asks for your prayers to save our nation in this time of crisis"
