Had this as a comment, but thought it might be worthy of a bit more attention:

Jonathan Chait of "The New Republic" just wrote an article for the LA Times that appeared in today's Albany Times Union arguing that the neocon idealogues are pushing for Cheney to run for Prez in 2008. He believes that the neocons have convinced themselves that Bush won reelection due to his neocon policy, and not his fake folksiness. They actually believe that Americans agree with his policies (they ARE insane!) and that Cheney would be the logical to keep the "Bush Legacy" (God help us all!) alive. But he believes Cheney cannot sell it because he is not likeable or phony folksy.
Chait thinks that Rove has created a persona, or used a persona, to trick Americans. Without that persona, the deck of cards will fall down. Cheney is not so warm and fuzzy, or folksy, and will not be able to pull it off.
