As you've undoubtedly heard, two immigrant teenage girls have allegedly been profiled on the basis of religion, jailed, and separated from their family on the suspicion, and subjected to secret proceedings without criminal charges or access to the evidence against them, all on the assumption that they might be interested in becoming "suicide bombers". In addition, one of their father's is in detention.
Meanwhile, an FBI official has been quoted as saying "Nobody here believes they are wanna-be suicide bombers." Why are these girls in jail, cut off from their families? Why are their lives being ruined?
A group of NY-based advocates and organizers I know have been in fairly close contact with one family and are attempting to reach the other are calling for letters of support for 16-year-old T, the Bangladeshi young women. A couple folks and I have set up a blog where you can click for the complete action alert, talking points, a model letter, and a link to a form where you can send a simple e-mail, if you don't have time to write out a whole letter.
