On Sunday April 24th Senator Frist will be appearing in a telecast organized by The Family Research Council called "Justice Sunday."
Organized by the Family Research Council, Conservative Christian Extremists will denounce the Democrats' use of the fillibuster as an action "against people of faith."
I thought he should be reminded that there are people of faith on both sides of the aisle....
Dear Senator Frist,
I am a person of faith.
I am also a Democrat.
On Sunday, April 24th I will gather with my family to celebrate Passover. We will read psalms, pray, sing songs and eat a festive meal as we recount the story of Exodus. A story about freedom and hope for the future.
That same sunday you will be participating in a telecast as part of "Justice Sunday." You will stand with people who say that Democrats are "against people of faith." The fact of the matter is that leaders like Dr. James Dobson and organizations such as The Family Research Council are the ones who are truly against people of faith - against anyone who believes and practices a faith other than their own.
I believe the Bill of Rights is one of the finest political documents ever written. It's promise to place no religion over another and guarentee religious freedom for all people is one of the reasons my ancestors came to this country. So I find the attempts of Extremely Conservative Christian leaders' attempts to enshrine their beliefs into law and impose their religion on others deeply disturbing. The rhetoric that is coming from their pulpits is exclusionary and goes against the American values I hold so dear.
That you, a national leader, have chosen to associate yourself with them is disappointing to say the least.
I hope you will reconsider your decision to participate in this event.
Sincerely,
Brooke Brod
